I happened to walk by a new bakery and immediately wanted to look it up to see what they had to offer. Now as I was already pleased with Four and Twenty Blackbirds, that was just a few blocks down, I was hoping this new place would delight just the same. ByClio is a very cute and welcoming space, with simplistic yet quaint and inviting decor and tiny touches of modish flair.

The owner,Clio Goodman, opened her cake shop just about a year ago in the Gowanus area where she fell in love with the space and is close to her parents’ child hood neighborhood but before that she also had a pop up shop in Greenpoint and where her idea to take worldly flavors mixed with cakes of floral and whimsical art formed was in her home kitchen during the pandemic. Clio is well versed in the art of cooking having worked in many known New York eating establishments such as the Union Square cafe as a pastry chef, and to help create and open the Pudding Shop and working at the BRKLYN Lader as the executive pastry chef. Added with her artistry skills, and combine her skills in the kitchen, she has easily become one of the most known and wanted cakes. Even as I sat in her shop, locals from around the community had their usuals and kids could not wait to have their special treat or pick out from the case what they wanted. As well, many customers were so eager to pick up their cake orders, as each one is handmade, even allowing you to create your own and pick the design, ending in you having your very own work of art for your special event, and not to mention the flavors to match that will easily have you remembering ByClio bakery and this is what sets her apart and has made her so in demand. So anytime you need a cake or need to fix your craving, make sure to try her creations or order a cake, as I know I will be for my Thanksgiving desert duty this year!

(Here is the coconut rose cake, very popular choice. )

Pastries range from $4-10 while cakes can start at $60. A quick reminder they are close Monday and Tuesday!
