My Stint with Covid!

I remember when I first heard about Covid 19. It was around this time last year when the first cases started appearing! It truly started a panic around the entire world. From the time I was constantly watching and reading CNN coverage of the new novel virus spreading more and more everyday in Italy, I had no idea by the time I returned from my trip to Puerto Rico around the second week in March we would be in a lockdown! This was unlike anything I had ever seen in my life! In school, they taught us about plague, influenza that swept the entire world and caused nationwide panic. This exactly what Covid 19 has become! It truly has changed our lives in more ways than one. So what is corona virus? Corona virus is a novel form of a respiratory illness that first appeared in Wuhan,China in December of 2019 in a wet market. Soon after it over took the whole of China and quickly spreading to different parts of the world. What is so baffling is still so little information and certainty we have on this very perplexing virus. Although it is very similar to the flu, there are many factors that make it even more unknown and scarier. The facts we do know about Co-Vid 19 are:

-Spread from person to person (droplets from coughing, close contact, contaminated surfaces)

-6 feet distancing

- masks worm to prevent spread

- constant hand washing and no touching face

-hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes

Now after naming all the known facts and preventive measures you can take to protect yourself. No doubt this has affected our lives and our mental state. Normal every day things like going to the grocery store or out to dinner have become such an adventure. These simple tasks have even became something to look forward to. Even yes, indoor dining has returned but many places are still under restrictions or still do not have indoor dining after the recent shutdown. Many places are unable to survive for losing profits. It truly is a difficult time for everyone, in many aspects of life. The main thing as a society is to maintain our social distancing, following safety protocols like wearing a mask and paying more attention to our cleanliness. Like hand washing and not touching our face. If we keep being diligent and protecting one another we can overcome this. If we continue to get tested regularly and stay updated on this pandemic we can overcome.

Personally, I myself was diagnosed with Co-Vid! I became sick after contracting it from my dad, who thankfully recovered fully. As he was first to become ill and seeing it live, it was not a great thing or situation to be in. To watch the man I love and was always the strong man I grew up with, be so sick and it be so unknown as it affects everyone differently. With lots of rest, liquids and meals prepared by his excellent nurse(wife) he recovered. Toward the end of his quarantine, I remember the day following Super Bowl Sunday, my throat began to throb. By the following morning my body was aching and I had a massive headache. By the afternoon I could no longer smell or taste anything. I had already known that I had gotten the corona virus. Immediately I told my family and thank god we had already been distancing from one another.

Thus began my ten day quarantine. The first three days were not too bad besides the massive headache I was experiencing and the body aches. Thank god I was able to breathe properly and still able to function. I chose this time to work on my blog, catch up on my shows and even start my spring cleaning early! The only unfortunate thing was I had begun quarantining on my birthday! It was for a good reason and thank god I had. Thankfully by day eight of my quarantine my symptoms were subsiding. I was not feeling tired and I even could smell the Vics, cream etc again. I was able to taste a little bit of the oxtail stew for dinner! All in all, my experience with Covid 19 was not that bad compared to what others experienced. I just happy that I am able to taste and smell again as food is a huge part of what makes me happy! The worst of the symptoms I experienced was the headaches, loss of taste and smell, I was thankfully able to rest and regain my strength and senses.

The biggest take always I took away from recovering from a virus like this during a pandemic is:

  1. Never take anything for granted, it could change instantly.

  2. Appreciate moments with family and friends more.

  3. Learn to live in the moment and be more grateful for the things we over look in life like being able to smell and taste!

  4. Vicks is seriously the cure for anything!

Please let us all do our part to be able to help contain this virus and we can enjoy the simple pleasures of life!
