What Lent taught me..

Easter is a holiday associated with Spring. We usually think of Easter egg hunts, chocolate and Easter baskets. There is also another part of Easter too! This is called Lent. Usually in preparation for Easter. It starts on Ash Wednesday and it is a forty day fast which symbolizes Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and leaving to the desert. It is a time to give up partying and food. I have done lent before when I was younger. It was something we discussed and speak about it in my house. I started fairly late in life participating in the holiday. In past years, I have given up rice, bread, etc. Picking something I truly love and doing without it. To properly commemorate the holiday and celebrate it properly. When it comes to religion my belief is respecting everyone’s beliefs and customs, even if I may not agree or partake in it.

This year for participating in Lent, I chose to give up added sugar. I am a real pushover for sweets. Not an over abundance, but to indulge in a craving. I thought this was the perfect time to take a break from it and help to control my urges. Besides, taking a break from my usual indulgence, it made me realize just how much everything we eat has sugar in it. You can definitely control what you eat that has a lot of added sugars. To be more aware of my choices and foods you can pick that do not have it. Also, being older realizing that nothing is impossible or as hard as it may seem if you put your mind to it. As hard as it was at times to ignore my cravings, I was able to conquer and accomplish my goal. To help me be more aware of what I am eating and my sugar intake. Lent will be something I continue to celebrate. It has given me even more reassurance of my strength for success and perseverance.
